What if I don't live in the same area as Megan? Can we still work together?
Yes! Absolutely! Megan has helped families from all over the country and around the world- so location is never an issue! Long distance clients will receive the same level of attention, service and support as local clients.
Does "sleep training" mean I have to let my child "cry it out"?
No, not at all! While the Cry-It-Out method is certainly a choice, it is not the only option when it comes to deciding which sleep training method is the best fit for you and your child. Megan's proven, gentle approach is one that allows you to fully support your child throughout the entire sleep training journey. You'll never have to leave your child alone to "cry it out".
Can you guarantee no crying?
No, because there really is no tear-free solution. Here's why: if your child is dependent on being held, rocked or fed to sleep but at some point, you decide you want to change this, you're child will likely protest and resist at first. Naturally, your child won't understand why you've changed your approach. If your child is pre-verbal, the only way to express his/her frustration and confusion will be to cry.
However, withMegan's careful guidance and gentle approach, she will create a step-by-step plan designed to minimize your child's crying as much as possible. You will always be able to respond to your child's protesting by providing loving and reassuring support while you help your child learn the important skill of being able to put themselves to sleep.
What ages do you work with?
As a certified Gentle Sleep Coach, Megan provides sleep coaching solutions for families with babies, toddlers, preschoolers and young elementary, ages 6 months to 6 years.
What if my 0-5 month old isn't sleeping well? Can you help?
The early months are a very delicate time for your baby and you as a new parent. Sleep patterns fluctuate greatly during this time & will vary immensely from baby to baby. Scientific evidence does not support sleep training newborns or young infants. There is too much variability in feeding patterns, risk to attachment and overall growth and development when attempting to sleep train your baby at a very early age. Your main focus during this time is to bond with your baby and meet their needs so they can grow and thrive. It is totally normal that when, how long and how well your baby sleeps will fluctuate greatly at this early age. Know that it is okay to do whatever you need to do (safely, of course!) to help your baby sleep during these early months.
Between the ages of 4 and 5 months, most babies go through great physical, developmental and neurological growth (also known as a "leap" or "regression"). These changes often derail established routines and cause disruptions in a child’s normal sleep patterns. Although these disruptions are normal, this can be a very challenging and frustrating time for parents. Often times, parents describe these disruptions as sudden or "out of the blue" because their child was sleeping fairly well up until this point. Parents often find themselves needing to do whatever it takes to get their baby to sleep but worry that they are going to create bad sleep habits as a result. At this young age, many babies are still not quite developmentally ready to begin learning independent sleep skills and will need to rely on assistance and support in order to sleep well.
As a certified Gentle Sleep Coach expert, Megan strongly encourages parents to wait until their child is at least 6 months before considering sleep training. Most families find that when they wait until their child is developmentally ready and is past the 4-5 month regression phase, they will have better success helping their child become a more independent sleeper. It is also recommended that you consult your child's pediatrician or family doctor to determine your child's developmental readiness before starting a sleep training process.
Can I continue to room share or co-sleep while helping my child learn independent sleep skills?
Yes, if it is your desired goal to continue to room share or co-sleep with your child, you can still successfully teach your child independent sleep skills. Megan will work with you to design a customized sleep plan to fit your family's unique situation and sleep training goals.
Do I have to stop breastfeeding in order to sleep train my child?
Absolutely not! Deciding when the right time to wean your child is always a decision best left up to you! If it is your desired goal to reduce the number of times your child nurses at night or completing eliminate all night feedings, Megan will work with you to design a plan to gently implement these changes. It is always best to consult your child's pediatrician or a lactation specialist first before making these changes to your child's feeding habits.
If your desired goal is to continue breastfeeding, you can still implement a successful sleep training process. However, if your child is dependent upon nursing to sleep at bedtime or back to sleep during the night, Megan will help you undo this sleep crutch and teach your child how to fall asleep independently. You will still be able to continue breastfeeding your child, it just won't be the thing your child will use to fall asleep.
How long will it take to sleep train my child?
Typically, it take between 2-3 weeks to achieve a complete sleep training journey. While every child responds differently, you should start seeing signs of progress and improvement in your child's sleep habits within the first few nights of training. The key to your overall success will be your ability to stay committed, dedicated and consistent throughout the sleep training process.
How does working with a professional sleep coach provide more value than reading a baby sleep book or searching for advice on the internet?
You've probably discovered that there is A LOT of information out there relating to children and sleep! And often times, that information can be conflicting, confusing and overwhelming! Because every child is different and every family's situation is unique, there is no "one size fits all" method that will work for everyone. As a parent, it can be hard to know what sleep advice to follow or which method will work best for your family.
As a certified Gentle Sleep Coach, Megan can help you cut through the confusion and implement a tailored sleep training plan that's the right fit for you family's specific situation. You'll receive step-by-step guidance to help you stay motivated and keep you moving forward so you can be successful in achieving your family's sleep goals. Countless families have stated at the end of their sleep training journey that working with Megan and receiving her personalized guidance and support was one of the best investments they've ever made!
